Even though psychiatric disorders and mental illnesses are very common, they are not all caused by the same things. Mental illness can be caused by both mental and social things. There may be a lot of complexity in how these things affect each other, but they usually don't work on their own. But more research needs to be done to find out how the link between genes and mental illness affects each person.
